I LIKE TRAINS – Sea Of Regrets, Director, Ben Lankester

Every man starts at zero. That is what he told me. His lips trembled as he reached for the bottle on the table.

When looking at him, I couldn’t disagree, but to be honest… if this man started at zero, he must have plunged deep into the abyss long before I made his acquaintance.

“Do you know how you can spot deranged souls?” He asked me. I had forgotten all about the camera, it rested on my lap, not even turned on.

“No, I don’t”, I answered truthfully.

“A deranged soul doesn’t fit the body. It’s visible if you look closely.”
We bought another drink and I asked him about emotions. What is an emotion? It was a weird question, but a question I had become fixated with lately. Maybe due to my own problems. And I knew he was an artist, not only a comic writer but also a fellow struggling writer like me. Creative people never seem to be offended when asked private things.

He looked up. His eyes – the pupils like bright gunshots in the dark surrounding sky – peered upon me with a smile. At least I think it was a smile.

“It’s not what it is.” he said. Maybe he wasn’t so far gone like I first thought. “It’s how you choose to capture it”, he finished gently.

Then I knew. This man is the first participant in CREATIVE SPACE. And this is how we save ourselves from drowning in despair and blackness.

WE CREATE.
